The Screen Actors' Guild (SAG) Awards are the most important of the year as far as many actors are concerned, ad this year's nominations reveal a surprisingly eclectic selection with no clear leaders emerging. Nominations for Carol strengthen ts position in the run-up to the Oscars, and Spotlight and Trumbo are now clearly marked out as front runners, but the selection also highlights impressive work from a lot of smaller films which are now likely to receive more serious attention as a result.
