The Online Film Critics' Society announced its awards for 2011 today, with Tree Of Life winning Best Picture. Its creator Terrence Malick won the Best Director award and star Jessica Chastain won Best Supporting Actress.
Michael Fassbender won Best Actor for Shame, having also received strong critical attention for his performances in Jane Eyre and X-Men: First Class. The Best Acress award went to Tilda Swinton for her role as a conflicted mother in We Need To Talk About Kevin. Best Supporting Actor went to Christopher Plummer, who plays a gay man opening up about his sexuality late in life in Beginners.
The award for Best Animated Feature went to Rango, while Best Documentary was won by Werner Herzog's debut 3D feature, Cave Of Forgotten Dreams and Best Film Not In The English Language went to Iranian drama A Separation. Midnight In Paris and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy won the screenplay awards.
The OFCS awards are interesting because they are one of few awards systems with an international base. Founded in 1997, the OFCS consists of approved critics whose primary reviewing medium is the internet.
