Pegah Ahangarani in prison

Actress thought missing is revealed to have been arrested.

by Jennie Kermode

Concerns were raised last week by the apparent disappearance of leading Iranian actress Pegan Ahangarani. News agency ISNA has now revealed that she is in prison, having been arrested last week as she prepared to board a flight to Germany.

Ms Ahangarani, also known for directing the documentary Deh Namaki-ha, was not known to be in any trouble with the authorities and the precise reason for her arrest is not apparent at this time. Nevertheless, it will fuel international concerns about Iran's treatment of people working in its film industry.
