Vasily Chuprina’s high stakes thriller Jailbroken, whose events take place in a single prison cell, will open this year's Glasgow Frightfest, it was announced today. The hotly anticipated event regularly sells out and is regarded by many as the classic Frightfest experience, recapturing the mood of its early London days before its programme expanded.

Part of the Glasgow Film Festival, Frightfest will run across Friday 6 and Saturday 7 March, concluding with Australian fantasy horror film Deathkeeper. Highlights include Taiwan-set shocker The Curse, from director Kenichi Ugana, and high camp possessed hands horror The Restoration At Grayson Manor, which boasts director Glenn McQuaid and star Alice Krige.

"For 21 years, FrightFest has joyfully programmed for collective gasps, laughs, screams and applause from our ever-supportive audiences within the Glasgow Film Festival. This year’s prime selection of unusual films will innovate, challenge, thrill and amaze as we platform both features and shorts from the most creative talents working in the genre," said Frightfest co-director Alan Jones.

Glasgow Frightfest is always attended by celebrity guests happy to chat with the fans. Those announced so far for this year's event include Neil Marshall, Howard J Ford and Chris Conway.
