Locarno Film Festival has anounced its line-up for its 79th edition. Among the eye-catching names are South Korean director Hong Sangsoo, a regular visitor to the festival, who will bring Nowhere to Lay My Eyes and Singaporean Nelson Yeo, who previously won the Filmmakers of the Present section with Dreaming & Dying. He will present The House On The Moon. Canadian director Denis Côté will also feature in the main competition with Nobody’s Violence.

Artistic Director Giona A Nazzaro branded the selection for the festival, which runs from August 5 to 15 as "an adventurous selection, full of surprises”.

There's British interest in the Filmmakers of the Present section this year, with Beatrice Gibson bringing British/French co-production At Night, which follows six women after dark in Paris.

Films of note playing out of competition include Sixteen Moments Of My Life by Albert Serra.

There are star names in the Piazza Grande section, including Caleb Landry Jones and Mena Suvari in Peter Brunner's Down The Arm Of God and Isabelle Huppert and Sandrine Kiberlain in Marc Fitoussi's All About Corinne.

Films travelling on from other festivals include James Gray's Paper Tiger, Petra Volpe's Frank & Louis and Rafiki Fariala's Congo Boy.

The festival will present honorary awards to director Darren Aronofsky, and actresses Virginie Efira and Asia Argento, who stars in Dario Albertini’s Armony, which will have its world premiere in the Piazza Grande section.

The retrospective this year is Red & Black – Hollywood Left and the Blacklist, which promises to will "re-examine this repressive yet defiantly creative era" when right-wing voices in the American political system alleged communist infiltration of Hollywood and led to the blacklisting of creatives, with Piazza Grande's retro titles including Dances With Wolves and Wild At Heart.

The programme features 233 films across 11 sections, including 103 world premieres from up to 69 countries of production and co-production.
