They all move out sooner or later, and after ten years as part of the Glasgow Film Festival, the Glasgow Youth Film Festival is going it alone. Launching tomorrow with a screening of science fiction thriller The Signal, it will take over the GFT for a weekend of films aimed at teenagers and young adults.

The only film festival in Europe to be curated entirely by 15 to 18 year olds, GYFF has special guests, special events and workshops running alongside the films themselves. "We've got the director of Supernova, Tamar van den Dop, holding a Directing and Acting workshop which we're really excited for! It's great to give young people the chance to meet professional filmmakers from across the globe," said Sean, 17, who is part of the programming team.

There will be a red carpet cosplay event where everyone is welcome to get creative, and on the final day, the festival will take over the Barras Art and Design Centre to celebrate Glasgow's Green Year with a programme focused on environmental concerns and with screenings of old favourites Jumanji and Labyrinth.

"This year the youth team had the fantastic opportunity to collaborate with POP!-UP programmers to put on a unique closing event to the Youth Film Festival... To tie in with 'Glasgow's Year Of The Green', the event will be transformed into a jungle paradise and free Fair trade food will be on offer," said 18 year old event programmer Fiona.
