Actress Brittany Murphy has died at age 32.

A spokesman for Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles said Murphy died at 10.04am local time yesterday. The hospital wouldn't confirm the cause of death but sources told website TMZ.com the 8 Mile star went into full cardiac arrest and couldn't be revived.

The LA fire department confirmed an emergency call was made at 8am from a LA home listed as belonging to her husband, British-born screenwriter Simon Monjack. It is claimed that she was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

The coroner's office is expected to launch an investigation.

Editor of Parade Magazine Jeanne Wolf, told Sky News that Murphy suffered from a heart murmur.

It was recently reported that Murphy had been replaced in the cast of horror flick The Caller, for causing problems on the Puerto Rico set, although Murphy's representative said the split was down to "creative differences".

The actress is best known for her role as Tai in Clueless but also starred in Uptown Girls, Sin City and lent her voice to Luanne in King Of The Hill and Gloria in Happy Feet.

Writing on social networking site Twitter, Murphy's former boyfriend Ashton Kutcher, said: "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany's family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon. See you on the other side kid."
