The British actress and producer will receive the accolade on September 19, when she will introduce a screening of The Housewife, directed by Canadian Ben Shirinian. Watts plays the housewife of a man a young journalist suspects of being a former Nazi officer in the psychological thriller which co-stars Ty Sheridan and Luke Evans.
The star, whose career spans four decades, rose to international prominence in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive. She has been Oscar-nominated twice, for Juan Antonio Bayona's The Impossible and Alejandro González Iñárritu's 21 Grams.
The 57-year-old has also worked with filmmakers including Peter Jackson, David Cronenberg, Clint Eastwood, Michael Haneke, Audrey Diwan, Noah Baumbach and Rodrigo García.
Her producing credits include The Painted Veil, We Don't Live Here Anymore, and Penguin Bloom.
She has also had an extensive TV career and last year published the book, Dare I Say It: Everything I Wish I'd Known About Menopause, which debuted as a New York Times bestseller.
The festival previously announced that Werner Herzog will also receive a Donostia Award and will introduce a screening of Bucking Fastard.
