Hot on the heels of the honorary Palme d’Or for Robert De Niro comes the announcement that Tom Cruise will ascend the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival with the latest instalment of the franchise Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning.

It will be presented Out of Competition at the Grand Théâtre Lumière on Wednesday, May 14. Cruise will be accompanied by his long-time collaborator, director and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, alongside other prominent members of the cast.

This is Cruise's third appearance on the Croisette: the first in 1992, was for the premiere of Ron Howard's Far And Away, before he returned in 2022 for the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick, as well as a masterclass and the award of an honorary Palme d'Or.

Cruise has portrayed the redoubtable Ethan Hunt since the beginning of the franchise in 1996.

The full Cannes official selection will be unveiled on Thursday.
