Emilia Pérez has taken the lead in the 2025 Oscars, with 13 nominations including Best Picture and Best Director. It's closely followed by The Brutalist and Wicked, with ten apiece, while Vatican-set thriller Conclave and Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown each scored eight. Among the independents, Anora, Nickel Boys and The Substance all made an impressive showing.

It's not a great year for women outside the acting categories, with The Substance's Coralie Fargeat the only woman nominated in the writing and directing categories, though there was a rare nod for a female editor - Juliette Welfling, who worked on Emilia Pérez.

The awards themselves will be announced on 2 March at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, wildfires permitting.
