One Battle After Another is BAFTA number one

Hamnet takes top UK prize as Jessie Buckley is named best Leading Actress

One Battle After Another
One Battle After Another

One Battle After Another has triumphed at the 2026 BAFTAs, winning six of a possible 14 awards. The big surprise of the night, however, was the success of I Swear, especially in the Leading Actor category, which saw a startled Robert Aramayo triumph over favourites Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio.

It was also a good night for Hamnet, which was named Outstanding British Film, though leading actress Jessie Buckley's success came as less of a surprise. After many years of giving inspired performances in underrated films, she has finally grabbed voters' attention, and has dominated the category throughout this season - it seems likely that this will remain the case in many future ones.

Sinners won three awards and Ryan Coogler seemed thoroughly satisfied with the response of BAFTA voters and the public, commenting on the importance of the film in relation to US cinematic history.
