Harrison Ford was taken to hospital today after being injured on the set of the new Star Wars film, where he is reprising his role as Han Solo. He is understood to have been hit by a falling hydraulic door on the Millennium Falcon, which may have fractured his ankle.

Ford, 71, had been filming at Pinewood Studios and was airlifted to Headington Hospital. He was subsequently taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Work on the film will continue with his scenes delayed until he has had time to recover.

Star Wars fans won't be the only ones hoping Ford recovers soon. He was seen meeting with Ridley Scott earlier this week, apparently resolving a decades-long feud, and rumours are rife that he's about to be cast in Scott's hotly anticipated Blade Runner sequel, with key players in the development team saying they want him to be part of it.
