The first tranche of titles for the 2026 Fantasia International Film Festival was announced today, and it includes some hotly anticipated premières. The Lure director Agnieszka Smoczyńska's Hot Spot features Andrzej Konopka and Noomi Rapace in the story of a private eye who uncovers a rebel plot in a society controlled by AI, while Lace Crater creator Harrison Atkins warps realityin Sour Minnows and a Yakuza enforcer accidentally goes viral on TikTok in Yu Nakamoto's Break Free. The inimitable Jenn Wexler puts her own stamp on a popular franchise in The Last Temptation of Becky, and Andrea Corsini expands his Viennale hit short about a woman taking on the characteristics of a big cat in Ferine.

Fantasia is usually strong on documentaries and this year it goes behind the scenes on some fan favourite films with Rubberhead: The Life And Monsters Of Steve Johnson. Capitalism is the real monster as a factory feeds on its employees in Sleep No More, and you can buy anything you want (but you'd probably prefer not to) in Anymart. There are also works by Kaspar Kalle, Yeom Ji-oh, Tim Riedel and more.

The festival will run from 16 July to 2 August in its traditional home of Montreal, and we'll be bringing you extensive coverage throughout.
