Sinners

The Golden Eddie awards were announced last night in a ceremony hosted by comedian Asif Ali at Royce Hall, UCLA. Editors' society the American Cinema Editors (ACE) selected Sinners for the top drama award, while One Battle After Another won in the comedy category. Both films rely heavily on rhythm and, as such, on editing that not only knits shots together in a narratively coherent and evocative manner, but does so while keeping to very precise pacing across extended sequences. The former is also noteable for having two characters played by Michael B Jordan, with editor Michael P Shawver's work essential to keeping this believable.

Ang Lee received the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award, recognising him as a filmmaker who exemplifies distinguished achievement in the art and business of film.

Those film awards in full:

  • The Perfect Neighbor - Viridiana Lieberman
