Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another took the top prizes at the Critics Circle Awards last night, winning Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, but it was outdone on the numbers by two fantasy films with powerful subtext. Frankenstein and Sinners won four awards each, including Best Supporting Actor for Jacob Elordi in the former and Best Young Performer for Miles Caton in the latter.

The top two acting awards went to Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme and Jessie Buckley for Hamnet, with both stars looking well placed to win more of the big ones this year.
