Tonka trucks join lego in rush to the big screen.

by Jennie Kermode

Tonka trucks are to star in their own big screen adventure, it was revealed today. The animated project, which is to be co-produced by Adam Sandler’s company Happy Madison, is described by Sony's Bob Osher as "a family friendly motion picture that brings the Tonka experience to life." I Want Candy writer Fred Wolf is working on the script but as yet no director has been named.

If you thought Battleship was stretching a game concept too far, it's time to brace yourself for a host of similar projects. As Hasbro also look into adapting their more grown-up game Risk, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are working on a film about lego. They have lots of visual ideas and describe it as very much action-based but there is still no word on what the plot will involve.

Some directors, however, know what toys are really for - to be played with. Ridley Scott was recently spotted at a Prometheus promo using a toy alien to fend off journalists.
