Jonathan Rhys Meyers in suicide scare

Match Point star hospitalised after collapsing at home.

by Jennie Kermode

Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meters, who starred in Velvet Goldmine, Alexander and TV hit The Tudors, was released from hospital yesterday following a scare which left fans worrying that he was close to death.

The 33 year old was found in a state of collapse by a friend who believed he had taken a large number of pills. Paramedics immediately attended the scene. The actor initially refused to be treated, prompting fears that he had tried to commit suicide, but he has since denied this.

Rhys Meyers has struggled with alcoholism for several years and recently left rehab at a South African clinic.
