The Italian Film Festival is here

This year's event is launched in Glasgow.

by Jennie Kermode

The 2009 Italian Film Festival opened last night in Glasgow with a screening of Silvio Soldini's powerful film Days And Clouds. Playing to a select audience of 200, the film made a big impression, and it's just the first in a great selection that will also be showing in Edinburgh, London and Dublin.

Enjoying a glass of bubbly at the launch party, festival director Allan Hunter was in buoyant mood. He and fellow director Richard Mowe have been working hard to find a diverse selection of films which includes both established classics and some of the boldest, most innovative new work in Italian cinema. They also have an intriguing selection of shorts and a tribute to the unforgettable Alida Valli.

Strong support for the festival has come from the Italian Cultural Institutes, who are celebrating a renaissance in Italian cinema that's bound to attract viewers worldwide. Don't miss out on this chance to see some of the best. You'll find extensive coverage here at Eye For Film.
