A 'Green OBE' for Pete Postlethwaite

The star of The Age Of Stupid receives a recycled gong.

by Jennie Kermode

At the premiere of The Age Of Stupid, back on the 15th of March, Pete Postlethwaite announced that he will be handing back his OBE to the Queen if the government goes ahead with its plans to build the proposed Kingsnorth coal - fired power station in Kent.

Now Dave Hampton and Katie Keegan of environmental campaign group One Green Earth have awarded him a special new prize, called 'the people's OBE' (or Outstanding Bravery for the Earth), in recognition of his pledge. The actor, who was in the middle of a Q&A at London's Panton Street Odeon at the time, was delighted, and assured them that he will keep on promoting the green agenda. He is currently helping to promote the Not Stupid campaign in association with the film.

The green OBE is made from 98% recycled materials and is several times the size of Postlethwaite's original one.
