Jack Russell terrier Uggie showed how to take the lead at the inaugural Golden Collar Awards in Los Angeles.

The canine co-star of The Artist was named top dog at the ceremony attended by stars including Missi Pyle and James Cromwell.

Artist co-star Cromwell - who played the farmer in Babe said: "I'm delighted to be here because I owe my career to a pig."

The awards are the brainchild of dognewsdaily.com and aim to honour hounds on the big and small screens.

The other film recipient on the night, was six-year-old kelpie Koko, who was named best dog in a foreign film for his role in Red Dog.

Although, Koko couldn't make the ceremony, he did send an acceptance speech.

Sadly, it has now been revealed that Uggie will not be attending the Oscars, having failed to receive the expected offcial invitation.
