Win tickets to Ctrl.Alt.Shift premiere

Short film showcase by young filmmakers announces ticket giveaway.

by Amber Wilkinson

On Thursday May 14, Ctrl.Alt.Shift will be hosting an evening of music and film, by young people for young people, that tackles current global issues and injustices - and they're giving you the chance to win tickets to attend.

The evening, at Shoreditch Studios East London, marks the culmination of a national competition launched last June, which invited aspiring filmmakers aged between 18 and 25 to write a treatment based around one of three key issues - War + Peace, Gender + Power and HIV + Stigma.

Those who won have been given the opportunity to bring their treatment to life on the big screen. In addition to being provided with a budget and cast, the prize included mentoring by some of the UK's finest directors such as Aoife McArdle, Chris Harding from Shynola, Kinga Burza, Paul Andrew Williams and Jim Threapleton.

The five winners (Joe Patrick & Tim Woodall, Tim Travers Hawkins, Fern Berresford, Ben Newman and Shelia Menon & Alex Monro) were announced in January 2009.

The result of these partnerships are A Thousand Voices, HIV: The Musical, Man Made, No Way Through and War School, which star some of the leading names from UK film and television, includng Julian Barratt (Mighty Boosh) and Martin Freeman (The Office), and boast soundtracks specially recorded by some of the UK and international hottest musical talent, Chipmunk, Shy Child, Metronomy, Jesca Hoop. For full cast list of each winning film, please see overleaf/below.

The evening will feature live performances from Jesca Hoop, The Thirst, Chipmunk and other special guests.

Tickets for the event are free and can be applied for by visiting www.ctrlaltshift.co.uk/wintickets - despite what the page there says, the competition is open until noon on May 13. Post the premiere the films will be available to download at www.ctrlaltshift.co.uk
