Oscar-winning Jane Wyman died today at her home in Palm Springs, aged 93.

The star - who was the first wife of Ronald Reagan - was nominated for four Oscars and won for her role as a deaf/mute rape victim in 1948's Johnny Belinda.

In her brief acceptance speech, she said: "I accept this award very gratefully for keeping my mouth shut once. I think I'll do it again."

But despite a career stretching back to Gold Diggers in 1937, the star - whose real name was Sarah Jane Fulks - is best remembered by younger audiences for her role as Angela Channing in TV soap Falcon Crest.

She was married five times - twice to studio music director Fred Karger. But after she split with Karger a second time in 1965 she remained single.

Her daughter by Ronald Reagan, Maureen, died from cancer in 2001. They also has an adopted son, Michael.
