Sinners was the big winner in the annual Alliance Of Women Film Journalists' EDA Awards. Ryan Coogler's tale of vampires in the Deep South, starring Michael B Jordan in a double role as a twins Smoke and Stack, won six awards, including Best Film, Best Actor for Jordan and Best Supporting Actress for Wunmi Mosaku.

Chloé Zhao's Hamnet, which focuses on the grief of William and Agnes Shakespeare, also fared well, winning Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Female Director and a Best Actress accolade for Jessie Buckley.

Sentimental Value was named Best International Feature, with Stellan Skarsgård picking up Best Supporting Actor.

Jennifer Merin, president of the 88-member AWFJ, said; “We are proud that this year's member-determined roster of nominees includes female contenders in non-gender specific categories, including the invincible Chloe Zhao in the Best Film, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay categories, as well as newcomer Eva Victor who produced, wrote, directed and stars in Sorry, Baby, her first feature which is nominated in the Original Screenplay category against the likes of the accomplished Ryan Coogler, Noah Baumbach, Jochim Trier and Jafar Panahi. We say hooray, and we are excited to honor these and other women filmmakers who are making their way in our still male-dominated film industry.

“We hope to see similar recognition of women filmmakers at this year's Oscars and various guild awards, as well as with other critic’s awards groups.”
