Critics' Circle announces awards

The Brutalist named Film of The Year

The Brutalist took the top prize from UK-based critics in the London Critics’ Circle Awards, held at London’s May Fair Hotel.

Brady Corbet’s immigrant epic, starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce was named Film of The Year.

Edward Berger’s Vatican-set thriller Conclave was named British/Irish Film of The Year, while its star Ralph Fiennes was named Actor of The Year. Actress of The Year went to Marianne Jean-Baptiste for Mike Leigh’s Hard Truths.

The directing prize went to RaMell Ross for Nickel Boys, while its DoP Jomo Fray picked up a cinematography prize for its distinctive first-person point of view. A Real Pain also took two prizes - for screenwriting (Jesse Eisenberg) and supporting actor for Kieran Culkin. Zoe Saldaña won the supporting actress equivalent for her role in Emilia Pérez.
