My Life In Ruins to close Tribeca

Nia Vardalos starrer gets special presentation

by Amber Wilkinson

My Life In Ruins has been announced as the closing night film of the 2009 Tribeca Festival.

The comedy starring Richard Dreyfus and My Big Fat Greek Wedding's Nia Vardalos will screen on May 2, with several of the cast members in attendance.

Vardalos plays Georgia, a woman who has lost her kefi (Greek for 'mojo'). Discouraged by her lack of direction in life, she works as a travel guide, while waiting to land her dream job. But it isn't long before she begins to see things in new ways - finding her kefi and possibly love in the process.

The film, which will be released in the US on June 5, is directed by Donald Petrie (Miss Congeniality) and written by Mike Reiss (The Simpsons Movie). A UK release date has not yet been announced.

Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal said: "This year’s Festival has a number of fun and light-hearted films for our audience to enjoy.

"We are delighted to bring them another crowd-pleasing film, My Life in Ruins, to celebrate our closing night."

Director Donald Petrie added: "We are excited and thrilled that My Life In Ruins is receiving the honor of being the closing night event at the Tribeca Fest. I can't think of a better launching pad for our film."
