Keanu Reeves leads tributes to Lance Reddick

The Wire and John Wick star dies at 60

Keanu Reeves was among those paying tribute to Lance Reddick, who has died at the age of 60.

Reddick, who starred alongside Reeves as a hotel concierge in John Wick was found dead at his home in Los Angeles, on Friday. The Wire star's publicist said he had died of natural causes.

Reeves issued a joint statement with Chad Stahelski, who directed the forthcoming John Wick: Chapter Four.

It said: “We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick. He was the consummate professional and a joy to work with.

“Our love and prayers are with his wife Stephanie, his children, family and friends. We dedicate the film to his loving memory. We will miss him dearly.”

Also paying tribute was Reddick's The Wire co-star Wendell Pierce, who played “Bunk” Mooreland alongside Reddick's Cedric Daniels. He wrote on Twitter: “A man of great strength and grace. As talented a musician as he was an actor. The epitome of class. An sudden unexpected sharp painful grief for our artistic family. An unimaginable suffering for his personal family and loved ones. Godspeed my friend. You made your mark here. RIP."

The creator of The Wire - which was set in Reddick's hometown of Baltimore - David Simon also paid tribute, adding to a tribute to HBO. He tweeted: "Consummate professional, devoted collaborator, lovely and gentle man, loyal friend. Could go on, but no, I can't go on. This is gutting. And way, way, way too soon."

Reddick appeared in all 60 episodes of The Wire and in addition to appearing on screen he was also known for his voice work, including on Rick and Morty and podcast series Batman Unburied.

He was nominated for a SAG award in 2021 alongside the rest of the ensemble cast for One Night In Miami.

He is survived by his wife Stephanie and children Yvonne and Christopher.
