GSFF to celebrate Black Scottish history with OMOS

Festival will host Scottish première of Hello Dankness

As the Glasgow Film Festival prepares to open its doors at the end of this month, preparations are underway for this year's Glasgow Short Film Festival, which will be held from 22 to 26 March. It was announced today that it will open with a screening of OMOS, directed by Rhys Hollis, which shines a spotlight on Scotland’s untold Black history and celebrates Black performance from the royal courts of the past to today's theatrical and cinematic venues and beyond.

"Not only is this work a homage to Scottish Black history and a celebration of Black performance, but the launch is a moment to share and discuss," said the director, who will follow up the screening with a cabaret performance featuring the film's stars.

Also announced today was the Scottish première of the highly anticipated satirical collage film Hello Dankness, created by Soda_Jerk, which uses clips culled from mainstream US cinema to comment on recent events in that country's political history.

"Their practice embodies the values that are reflected across the GSFF programme - it is critical and curious, transgressive and experimental, and yet extremely accessible and very, very funny," said Festival director Matt Lloyd.

Further festival titles will be announced later this month, with the full programme due to be revealed on 22 February.
