Julian Sands, whose films include Warlock, A Room With A View and the recent Ghosts Of Monday, has gone missing during a hiking expedition. A search was launched after his wife, the author Evgenia Citkowitz, reported that he had failed to return home last Friday, 13 January, but it was subsequently delayed due to severe weather and the threat of avalanche. Drones have been used to search in the meantime and his son Henry is now understood to have joined the search.

The 65-year-old actor's car has since been found near a popular trail leading up to the summit of Mount Baldy, at 10,000 feet, in California's San Gabriel mountain range. The area is heavily forested and temperatures have been dropping below zero at night. Two people have recently died there. Sands is an experienced hiker, however, and is likely to have been well equipped.

Sands recently starred in historical drama Seneca - On The Creation Of Earthquakes, set in Ancient Rome, which is scheduled to screen at the upcoming Berlinale. He is a member of the close-knit horror community, where filmmakers and fans alike have been expressing their hopes for his safe return.
