Standing: Cédomir Kolar (Shooting Stars jury), Christian Madsen (jury), Sylvia Hoeks (The Netherlands), Alicia Vikander (Sweden), Andrea Riseborough (United Kingdom), Marija Škaričić (Croatia), Natasha Petrovic (FYR Macedonia), Clara Lago (Spain), Ralph Fiennes (Host), Heike Makatsch (jury), Lina Todd (jury). Front row: Nik Xhelilaj (Albania) Alexander Fehling (Germany), Pilou Asbæk (Denmark). Domhnall Gleeson (Ireland).

Brighton Rock star Andrea Riseborough and Irish actor Domnhall Gleeson were among the 10 European film actors picking up this year's Shooting Stars awards at the Berlinale.

On Monday night jury member Heike Makatsch (German Shooting Star 2001) and Ralph Fiennes welcomed the actors onto the Berlinale Palast stage to receive their awards to celebrate their recent achievements.

The stars are chosen by an international jury and past recipients have included Carey Mulligan (2009), Daniel Bruhl (2003) and Daniel Craig (2000).

Newcastle-born Riseborough, who stars as timid waitress Rose alongside Sam Riley in Rowan Joffe's adaptation of the Graham Greene classic, has several film roles in the works, including the part of Wallis Simpson in Madonna's WE.

The jury said: "Riseborough is one of the biggest talents of her generation, with a magnetic screen presence and amazing technique. Her ability to totally immerse herself into a character makes her naive, love-struck waitress in Brighton Rock a touching and tragic victim."

Dublin-born Domnhall Gleeson - the son of actor Brendan - featured in Sensation, in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part One as Bill Weasley and had a role in the Coen Brothers' True Grit. The jury said: "As the likable loser in Sensation, Domhnall creates a unique world around the character with his quirky screen presence. It's a touching performance, full of intriguing contradictions."
