The line-up for the 64th Edinburgh International Film Festival, to be held later this month in the Scottish capital, was announced today, and it's a stonker. Premières of Sylvain Chomet's The Illusionist, Werner Herzog’s My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done, and Steven Soderbergh's And Everything Is Going Fine lead a strong independent selection complemented by a gala screening of the eagerly-awaited Toy Story 3. And those are just a few of the delights on offer.

"We're tremendously excited about the programme this year and especially about how many of our titles are brand new to the world festival circuit and the international industry," said festival director Hannah McGill. Supported by patrons Sean Connery, Tilda Swinton and Seamus McGarvey, the festival includes a number of promising British films, including Paul Andrew Williams' Cherry Tree Lane and Ashley Horner's brilliantlove. Retrospective section After The Wave: Lost And Forgotten British Cinema 1976 - 1979 will include a rare chance to see films like Ken Russell's Savage Messiah and Powell and Pressburger's The Boy Who Turned Yellow, with filmmakers including Stephen Frears and Mike Hodges in attendance to talk about their work.

With The Illusionist opening, the festival will close with the première of British tragi-comedy Third Star. Further highlights include The Dry Land, Jackboots On Whitehall and The Secret In Their Eyes. "We're looking forward to welcoming an amazing array of guests, and to celebrating EIFF's 64th year by spreading our excitement about current and classic cinema to our loyal attenders and to new audiences alike." said McGill.
