Marrakech Film Festival goes green

This year's event is focusing on global warming.

Morocco's most important film industry event, the Marrakech Film Festival opened this week with a special twist - its ninth event is dedicated to the theme of global warming. Attendees can see films like An Inconvenient Truth, already well known in the UK, alongside French documentary Home and Albert Hare and Nicolas Hulot's The Titanic Syndrome.

Festival supporter Christopher Walken, who received a special tribute at this year's event, sees Marrakech as an important place to bring people from different backgrounds together, arguing that "Cinema can reconcile diverse cultures, ethnicities and religions."

"What fascinates me is that the people who take part manage to say some very personal things," said director and jury member Elia Suleiman.
