Oscar-winning star Michelle Yeoh will receive an Honorary Golden Bear at next year's Berlin Film Festival. The accolade is in recognition of her outstanding achievements in film and cinema and will be presented at the Berlinale Palast opening ceremony on February 12.

The star's screen career spans four decades and includes Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Crazy Rich Asians, Wicked and Everything Everywhere All At Once, for which she won a Best Actress Oscar.

Originally rising to prominence in Asian action and martial arts cinema, including Wing Chun and Police Story III, the Malaysian-born star broke onto the international scene as a secret agent in James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies and has since established her self as a Hollywood star, also providing voice work for the likes of Minions: The Rise Of Gru and Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts. Next year she will feature in the TV series Blade Runner 2099 and upcoming action thriller The Surgeon.

Yeoh, who served as a member of the Berlinale International Jury in 1999, said: “Berlin has always held a special place in my heart. It was one of the first festivals to embrace my work with such warmth and generosity. Returning after all these years, in recognition of my journey in cinema, feels truly meaningful.”

Festival director Tricia Tuttle said: “Michelle Yeoh is a visionary artist and performer whose work defies boundaries ‒ whether geographic, linguistic or cinematic. Her commanding presence, fearless artistic choices and unmistakable style have left a lasting impression on generations of filmmakers and fans at the Berlinale and across the globe.”
