After a series of fashionable young men in the Spidey suit what's next to keep the franchise fresh? Graphic animation, or a Cartoonsville walkabout, although this is more serious. concerning one of Marvel Comics legendary icons..

The plot goes into high drive early, which means there is little time to gather some sense in the violence and confusion. The drawing is good as the story scatters. The temptation to go all the way and lose a grip of what might be called imaginative reality is ever present.

Keeping track of characters that are half-remembered from earlier incarnations is difficult enough but when teenage Brooklynite Miles Moralis (Shameik Moore on vocals) is bitten by a radioactive spider while the other Peter Parker (Chris Pine) is out there being cool and on the case, wherever that may be, things become even more confusing.

The creators of The Lego Movie fill the directors' chairs which means there is purpose to the madness and reason to stay focused. Don't question what Nic Cage is doing voicing an old fashioned detective or why Lily Tomlin appears as Aunt May, while someone else locks down Spider-Ham, a pig by any other name. The Spider-Verse remains opaque. Don't stop to try and fit the pieces.

Anything can happen, and does, leaving no imprint on the memory.
