For a first attempt at a short film, this is really pretty good. Christian Welsh has gone for a mockumentary take on the world of luggage-riding – think skateboarding with menaces.

There’s plenty of gags to keep things moving along as retired ‘luggagers’ recall their glory days, while the latest batch of sportsman plan for their ‘big race’. As short mockumentaries go, this is quite ambitious, mixing still images with TV-style footage and ‘talking head’ style interviews.

Welsh’s choppy editing suits the nature of the film and lends it a fair amount of verve. It is the snappy script, however, which is key to Xtreme Luggaging’s success. Bonkers but great fun.
