A Brazilian girl walks into a bar - no, this isn't the opening to a racist joke. Eva (Clara Perez) is apprehensive and, thanks to the claustrophobic direction of Laura Smith, so are you.

Eva asks the barman if she can pay the £35 performance charge later, is given an empty glass to hold her tips and heads for the back room, where pole dancers are performing for clients.

Eva is so wet behind the ears that she runs the risk of melting away under the cool stare of top bitch Rachel (Sarah Preston), an old hand who hasn't got time for the new kid. What follows is part battle of wills, part stinging indictment of an industry that is both seedy and demoralizing.

Perez and Preston put in excellent performances, as the naive and hardened dancers, while Smith beautifully captures the cringeworthy nature of their trade. She cleverly makes her audience become voyeurs alongside the punters, as Eva falteringly tries to make enough to pay her way, leading inevitably to confrontation.
