Director Goran Dukic, Patrick Fugit, and producers Mikal P Lazurak (who also plays Nanuk) and Tatiana Kelly take part in the illuminating and lively group commentary, which shows the level of research that took place before filming, as well as the challenges of making a low budget film. What’s most surprising to find out is that a lot of film was filmed in and around downtown LA.

The DVD also contains 11 deleted scenes (approx 16 mins) which are consistently entertaining but not missed in the film – they would have slowed the pace down considerably. The all-too-brief eight-minute featurette is fun and shows the various tests the filmmakers took to get their distinct visual look, as well as the trouble they had with their vehicles. And the storyboard comparison is interesting because of the child-like drawings as much as anything.

So altogether Wristcutters has a pretty rounded DVD package, but it would have been nice to feature more material about Bobby Johnston’s excellent original soundtrack.
