Hunt For The Wilderpeople

There is no doubt that this 10th anniversary 4K release of The Hunt For The Wilderpeople has taken on extra poignancy with the death of star Sam Neill just a month before it's release. He's a vibrant presence in the extras, which are a reminder that beyond being a great actor, he was also a fun and thoughtful human.

The commentary track has been carried over from the previous DVD release, along with a behind-the-scenes featurette and a blooper reel. The commentary is aimable and banter-laden featurngn first Neill and then his young co-star Julian Dennison Skypeing (remember that?) in to wherever Waititi is. Neill actually proves to be the more serious of the contributors, with Waititi basically looking for stuff that will raise a laugh, including grousing about a tennis raquet in the set design.

The new extra on the disc is a lovely onstage anniversary Q&A with all the stars of the film, plus Waititi. Neill becomes as he puts it "teary" as he talks about the special feelings he has for the film and there's a fair chance you might find yourself responding in kind. The original theatrical trailer rounds out the set.

In terms of the presentation of the film, it looks and sounds crisp and clear.
