It's been a long wait for the arrival of Laura Poitras' urgent and compelling documentary in the UK but finally, almost a year from its release in cinemas, it is making its way onto DVD alongside a second Dogwoof box set release The 9/11 Trilogy, which features this film alongside her earlier The Oath and My Country, My Country.

The extras directly related to the documentary are three deleted scenes - Hong Kong Day 1: Inside The CIA, Hong Kong Day 1: Taking Action and Three Weeks After Hong Kong. The first is the longest and most detailed, with Snowden describing the way in which CIA operatives flout the law to insinuate their way in ot the lives of others. The second is a call to arms, in which the whistleblower talks about the need to act on your convictions. The trio is rounded out by a segment of Glenn Greenwald getting excited about some research in Rio.

Two ine-minute films that Poitras made for the New York Times Op-Doc strand are also included - and hard-hitting in terms of content. Death Of A Prisoner tells the story of Adnan Latif, who died while under detention at Guantánamo in September 2012. It's a shocking and intimate documentary with no-holds barred when it comes to recording the grief of his family, although the scoring becomes annoying as it relies to heavily on one monotonous note.

The second Op-Doc, The Program, is a more obvious companion piece to Citizenfour, which sees CIA whistleblower William Binney talk about why he felt the need to speak out about his own program Stellar Wind, when his bosses started using it to spy on US citizens. A trailer completes this solid DVD release that raises deep questions about government surveillance and accountability.
