Brit and Irish flicks short-listed for European Film Awards

European Academy announces selection list.

Nine of the 49 European films chosen for the European Film Awards selection list were wholly or partially made in the UK or Ireland.

Films including Ken Loach's sympathetic examination of the Irish Repulbican movement in the early part of the 20th century, The Wind That Shakes The Barley, and costume adaptation Pride And Prejudice are included on the list, alongside hard-hitting drama documentary The Road to Guantanamo and Neil Jordan's comedy drama with a transvestite twist Breakfast On Pluto.

Also on the list are Danish,Norwegian,Swedish and UK collaboration Drabet (Manslaughter) - the final instalment of director Per Fly's "class trilogy" - Danish/UK-make Efter Brylluppet (After The Wedding), Norwegian/UK coproduction Free Jimmy and Karaula (Border Post) a Bosnia-Herzegovina/Croatia/Slovenia/ Macedonia/UK/Serbia outing.

Spanish/UK collaboration recounting the story of anarchist Salvador Puig Antich, Salvador, and Swedish/Danish/UK coproduction Zozo - about an Arab boy who moves to Sweden from Lebanon - are also included.
