Image quality on this Region 2 DVD from Buena Vista is okay, not great. While free from obvious scratches and damage and exhibiting solid colours, the 1.85:1 widescreen image is also a touch on the grainy side - a flaw enhanced by the predominannce of night-time exteriors and shadowy interiors.

The 6.1 Dolby Digital audio is clear and allows scope for some nice effects, with screeching strings, scuttling and squishing noises all present and correct.

In terms of bonus material, the disc presents two Making Of pieces, Five Days Of Mimic and Behind The Sound Of Mimic, and a selection of five deleted scenes.

The Making Of diary excerpts are basically 17 minutes of pointless MTV-style flashiness and inane, over-enthusiastic contributions from lesser members of cast and crew.

The sound feature is better, showing how the sound engineer put together the mix for one scene, starting with silence and adding in the dialogue, ADR, foley, music and effects tracks. But there's only so much that can be said in five minutes and it isn't exactly a job on a par with, say, Walter Murch's work on The Conversation, or Apocalypse Now.

The deleted scenes run for a total of five minutes and, unusually, at least three of them would probably have improved the film. One in particular, Queen Remi, helps explain some aspects of the back story that are otherwise glossed over.
