Hoodwinked is one of those rare animated masterpieces that come along every once in a while to show us that it’s not about formula anymore; it’s about entertainment.

Hoodwinked is the story of little red riding hood (voiced by Anne Hathaway) and how when she gets to her grandmother’s house she finds her granny gone only to be replaced by the big bad wolf. But that’s just Little Red Riding Hood the years old classic done with another title I hear you say. Well, it’s not actually. This is what you would get if you were to mix Little Red Riding Hood, The Usual Suspects and XXX.

A thief is running amok in the forest stealing the ingredients and recipes for Granny (find out what this is) baked range, sending all of the local businesses into closure. Last on the list is Granny’s (voiced by Glenn Close) recipe book. At the same time Little Red has another delivery to make to granny but as she is on route to make her delivery she comes across a wolf that just happens to be in the woods. Will she get to Granny’s on time before the wolf can eat her up, or is there another twist or two in store to make this story that bit more interesting? Let me just say this: this tale has extreme sports, a wolf with a different story to tell, runaway cart chases, and a whole host of bad guys.

This tale is told from four different angles.

The characters in this movie are what keep it going. Little Red is cute; the wolf (voiced by Patrick Warburton – Joe Swanson from Family Guy) is hilarious; his partner the caffeine addicted squirrel (voiced by Corey Edwards) is great too. The Sherlock Holmes character trying to unravel the case is played by a frog. The character with the biggest secret is Granny, and when you find it out I dare you not to laugh. The carefully crafted world is amazing to look at too as you go from one place to the next and see what this animated movie has to offer.

I dare anyone not to enjoy this movie.
