Short Film Festival opens in Glasgow

Scottish and Icelandic shorts lead the pack.

by Jennie Kermode

The Glasgow Short Film Festival opened its doors today for what looks set to be a very busy weekend. It's host to two major competitions, for international and Scottish shorts, with award winners to be announced on Sunday. It also boasts a special programme of Icelandic short films affectionately entitled I hate Iceland, after a famous quote delivered in response to the Eyjafjallajökul ash cloud.

The festival also features surreal and political films from the Oberhausen festival and a series of experimental Trypps films by Chicago's Ben Russell. There's a look back at margaret Tait's short films made for children and also a series of music videos made by The jesus And mary Chain's Douglas Hart.

Alongside the films, there'll be special events, live shows and parties. Many festival screenings sold out last year and this year's event is expected to be even bigger. We'll be bringing you full coverage throughout.
