Glasgow Film Festival line-up revealed

Your Sister's Sister headlines 2012 event.

by Jennie Kermode

The full programme for the 8th Glasgow Film Festival was announced today, with Lynn Shelton's thoughtful romantic drama Your Sister's Sister selected for the opening gala. The festival will close with new Aki Kaurismäki film Le Havre. Highlights include the premiere of Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy, Noomi Rapace thriller Babycall and the latest adventure with The Muppets.

As usual, the festival will include a weekend of films chosen by the Frightfest crew, this time including The Raid and Rites Of Spring, and this year there will be extra Frightfest treats popping up at other times. The celebrated Fashion In Film strand is also back, and the Music In Film sub-festival promises a great selection of extracurricular treats, including a live performance of Belleville Rendez-Vous. This year's country focus is Germany and there's also a strand themed around the Weimar Republic, with live cabaret.

Gene Kelly is the focus of this year's retrospective, with a host of great musicals to tap your toes to, and there's also a Gene Kelly ceilidh. Meanwhile, fans of science fiction, graphic novels or general geekery will love the Kapow!@GFF strand curated by legendary comic creator Mark Millar.

As usual, we'll be bringing you all the latest reviews plus exclusive interviews and special features, so stay tuned.
