Glasgow to host BBC Film Festival

The BBC's film festival on Glasgow Green on 9th September.

by Jennie Kermode

This summer will see Glasgow Green become a centre of activity for film fans in a day long festival where you can learn about the craft of film making, meet the stars, try your hand at making your own film and enjoy the blockbuster Spider-Man 3.

"A trip to the pictures has always been held dear by the people of Glasgow. What better day out than a trip to the Green to see some of the finest films al fresco and a chance to get up close and personal with the people behind the scenes?" asks Glasgow's chair of Culture and Sport, Liz Cameron, who helped the city to win this event. Glasgow has a thriving film industry of its own and some of its movers and shakers will be present at the festival hoping to spot new talent.

Main stage events at the festival will be compered by comedian Danny Wallace. There'll be old silent films and animation to watch as well as screenings of Notes On A Scandal and Goldfinger, The BBC Big Band will be playing classic movie theme tunes all day. Stars in attendance will include Trainspotting star Ewan Bremner, alongside Sir Ben Kingsley, Shirley Eaton, Atta Yaqub and director Gillies MacKinnon.

The festival on the green is free but ticketed, so visit the BBC site quickly if you don't want to miss out.
